On April 25th, CrossFit Conshohocken will be running "Manion" — one of CrossFit's most well-known Hero WODs.
The Story Behind the Workout
1st Lieutenant Travis Manion, USMC, was killed in action in Fallujah, Iraq, on April 29, 2007. He was 26 years old and a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Travis embodied the warrior ethos and the belief that service and sacrifice are how you honor the freedom you've been given.
His family established the Travis Manion Foundation to continue his legacy through character development and community service programs for veterans and military families. Many CrossFit affiliates around the country run "Manion" in late April each year as a tribute.
The Workout
7 rounds for time: 400m Run 29 Back Squats (135/95 lbs)
The 29 represents his rank — 1st Lieutenant. The 7 rounds represent the month of his death. The workout is long and hard. That's appropriate.
Scaled Options
We'll have scaled options available. This one is meant to challenge — scale the load to something that lets you move intentionally and honor the effort the workout calls for.
Come Out
Whether you knew Travis Manion's story before today or are just learning it now, this is a workout worth showing up for. Bring your A game. See you April 25th.
