Amanda’s Story

Amanda joined CrossFit Conshohocken (then Thermal) in 2019, when she was a freshman in high school. She tried many sports as a child, but most of the time was more interested in picking the flowers in the grass. Nothing really stuck until she joined CrossFit Conshohocken. When Amanda first started at the gym, she was not able to run 100 meters.

Amanda’s introduction to CrossFit began by dabbling in private training and gives then Coach Tyler credit for teaching her all the fundamentals, and most importantly, igniting her passion for CrossFit. It took well over a year of private coaching, and a few setbacks, before she felt comfortable joining classes (typical 15-year-old girl worries).

One of the principles at CrossFit Conshohocken is community. That was demonstrated immediately as so many members reached out to Amanda saying, “here is my number, call me anytime.” At that time, Coach Nick was training Amanda and her form, strength, and skills increased. That same 15-year-old girl who couldn’t run 100 meters, broke 10 min mile, then 9 min mile and is working towards getting her mile time somewhere sub-9! She continues to do private training, now with Coach Travis. Along with their riveting conversations, Amanda was able to complete her first double under, as well as get upside down after nearly 5 years of trying.

Amanda also lost 75lbs during this journey, her physical health dramatically improved. And more importantly, her confidence as a young woman grew, knowing she can accomplish anything she puts her mind to. Amanda is completing her 2nd year at Saint Joseph’s University. She loves spending time with her friends and works summers as a counselor at day camp. Around the gym you can find her always requesting Taylor Swift to be played during the WOD, and usually with a smile on her face (unless burpees are on the program).

Most importantly, she wants to give the biggest shout out to her dad, Mike Lanasa. Without his constant encouragement, and contagious excitement about CrossFit, she would never have started this journey.
